Canadian Air Conditioning Guide for Summer 2023

Summer is just around the corner and things are heating up. Humidity is on the rise and a comfortable place to cool down is all the more important. So, we’ve put together a Summer Guide for Canadian’s on how to prepare for the sun when it comes to their in-home AC system. We answer the most frequently asked questions that we receive during this time of year below…

What is involved in installing a central air conditioner?

The overall process of installing centralized air conditioning in your home is quite simple. Firstly, contractors will need to assess your homes’ ductwork. They will install a split system comprising evaporator coils and a condenser. The evaporator coils will live somewhere in your utility room or attic, while the condenser will sit outside of your home. HVAC technicians can install ducts if your home doesn’t have pre-existing ductwork.

What are the advantages of central air conditioners?

Central air conditioning gives owners more control over the energy usage and temperature of the home. This in turn is a much more cost-effective option over the longer term as you only utilize the energy required to cool the home.

Is it cheaper to run a portable air conditioner?

Portable air conditioners require more energy and in turn more money to reach your ideal cooling temperature. It may be cheaper up-front when you are cooling a single space of your household, but when you rely on it during the hotter summer months, it will cost you. If you have a larger home with many unused rooms, then a portable air conditioner might be a viable option for some parts of your home.

How to remove a central air conditioning unit?

We suggest that you do NOT try to remove your central air conditioning unit by yourself. Technicians can come out to your home and dispose of the system properly for a relatively low cost.

Why do portable air conditioners need to be vented?

Some portable air conditioners need to be vented outside using a hose to extract hot air, and other ventless ACs do not. However, those types of air conditioners do not operate like a traditional air conditioning unit and would instead be referred to as an evaporate cooler.
